Significance
FAMI-QS is the feed additive and premixture manufacturers’
reaction to the European Regulation
(EC) 183/2005 on feed hygiene. The standard represents
a European system for Good Manufacturing
Practice in feed safety. Its application is designed
to guarantee safety and good hygienic conditions
throughout the entire food production chain, to
include all components. The assessment provides
manufacturers of feed components and suppliers
from third countries with an opportunity to demonstrate
the safety of their processes and their conformity
with the requirements of FAMI-QS.

FAMI-QS is designed for organizations that manufacture
feed additives and/or supply individual components
to the feed industry.

Certification work flow
At the end of the assessment, the organization will
be issued action plans with the non-conformities, if
any. Depending on the severity of the various nonconformities,
the next steps can be anything from
immediate action to a follow-up assessment. Closed
non-conformities need to be approved by the auditor
first; only then will DQS decide on the success
of the certification. Finally, the organization receives
the report and their certificate. A summary of the
report will also be submitted to the head office of
FAMI-QS.
Synergies can be realized when assessing an integrated
management system according to various
standards at the same time.
