| ISO 17021 | | So you know what your cerfication body needs to know
| | | On September 15, 2006 the DIN EN ISO /IEC 17021:2006 standard - ISO 17021 in short - was published. It replaces the standards ISO/IEC Guide 62:1996 (DIN EN 45012:1998) and ISO/IEC Guide 66:1999 that regulated the common requirements for bodies that assess and certify quality and environmental management systems. |

The 24-month transition period, set by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), ends in three months, on September 15, 2008. Reason enough to take a closer look at some aspects of this new standard. ISO 17021 is defined as conformity evaluation - requirements for bodies that assess and certify management systems. Comparable to a specification sheet, ISO 17021 offers the framework in which accredited certification bodies have to carry out their assessments and certifications. The goal was to define and establish internationally standardized requirements for certification bodies that certify different kinds of management systems. The standard is therefore applicable to all kinds of management systems like ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, ISO 22000, and ISO 13485.
